To mark the almost post-pandemic return (social distancing enforced, as are masks inside the buildings) of School Life Media’s junior journalism program, Hudson City School District Supt Dr. Maria Suttmeier recently presented SLM board president John Cody with a check for $10,000 of federal Covid-19 funds. SLM’s School Life News program has been working with HCSD since 2016, offering students from third through fifth grades a comprehensive journalism program as part of its English Language Arts curriculum.  “We are happy to be back,” says SLM founder and exec director Peter Meyer (far right) “and look forward to introducing more students to the wonders of reporting the Who What When Where and Why of the world to their friends, family,  and community.”

Helping celebrate are MCSES Assistant Principal Dr. Trini Hernandez (far left); fifth-grade teacher and grade level chair Lynn Clark; SLM Instructor Charles Murphy (just right of Mr Cody);  Michael Saltz,  SLM board member and former senior producer for Public Broadcasting Service’s MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour;  Meyer;  and (front row) five fifth-grade prospective junior journalists.
